After Robert Powell hit the Florida Lottery jackpot last month and took home more than $6 million, he thought of his church. And he offered to drop his tithe, around $600,000, in the collection plate of First Baptist Orange Park. But the church and Pastor David Tarkington politely declined and told Powell they will not accept the lottery winnings. Star Tribune - Investors in Minnesotta lose over $30 million to a “born again” minister running a ponzi scheme. “He talked a lot about God’s word,” one investor said. “He said, ‘ElVera, don’t believe a man by his word, believe a man for his works.’ Then he showed me a picture of an orphanage he was building in Russia. I felt very secure.” Patrick’s 2 cents – never ceases to amaze me how these schemes work…especially among Christians. These investors were promised 7% monthly return, the opportunity to eliminate poverty, etc. Unbelievable.
